Be Informed!

The Port of Hastings Corporation and State Government are planning a massive expansion of the Port of Hastings, including freight rail and transport corridors across southern areas of Victoria.

THIS IS THE BIGGEST INFRASTRUCTURE PLAN EVER FOR VICTORIA THAT WAS NOT PRESENTED AS AN ELECTION ISSUE!!!!!  THE CONSULTATION PROCESS HAS BEEN FLAWED - MANY PEOPLE REMAIN UNAWARE OF THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS.

The Plan:

8,750 Acre development of the Port of Hastings including a 4klm expansion of the wharf in Westernport:

Freight Rail and Transport Corridors to take 16 trains per day (most at night) and a further 3,410 trucks PER DAY in three separate directions out of Hastings:

Diesel emissions, noise pollution, sleep deprivation and associated health effects, Land Acquisitions, property devaluation, threat to rural communities, agriculture, recreational boating/fishing, tourism, penguins, marine ecosystem; the list goes on!

The Myth:

Many believe Westernport is already a 'deep water port' and is an alternative to the Port Phillip Channel Deepening Project.  The truth is, Westernport is NOT an alternative;the State Government are planning to develop BOTH ports.  Nor is it much deeper than Port Phillip; Westernport will also require extensive dredging.

Act Now:

This proposal is soon to be presented to Cabinet, but it is not too late to have your say.  Contact your politicians, councils and media. WE BELIEVE THIS PROPOSAL IS NOT ONLY ENVIRONMENTALLY, SOCIALLY AND ECONOMICALLY NOT VIABLE, BUT COMPLETELY IGNORANT OF THE 'BIGGER PICTURE' ISSUES SUCH AS CLIMATE CHANGE AND IMPACTS OF INCREASED CONSUMPTION.
